Turn on the lights…

On this Thoughtful Thursday, we remind you that there is always light in the darkness. It may not be easy to find, and you may not notice it at first, but it is there. What you are going through, you will overcome. What you are feeling is valid, but you are strong enough to feel it anyway. You will learn, you will grow, you will change. And you will be all the better for it.

If you or someone you love would like to speak to a mental health care professional, please call our office at (352) 365-2243, M-F from 9AM-5PM.

Get help.

Too often, we wait to seek mental health care until we are overwhelmed and feel like we have no where else to turn. Why? Sometimes seeking care is hard, especially when we are coping with illnesses such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder. The stigma that surrounds receiving mental health care only makes it more difficult for those in need to truly get the help they deserve. Be brave, take care of yourself, fight the stigma, and get the help you need now.

Coping with Anxiety through Visualization

As it’s the first week of the new year, we thought we would share a coping exercise with you that you may have not tried yet! This exercise, called visualization, combines imagination and relaxation to help you turn a stressful situation into a positive one in your mind. By practicing imagining the most positive situations, interactions, and outcomes, while simultaneously practicing relaxing your physical body, you can increase your self-esteem and confidence, and give yourself the boost you need to actually make these positive interactions happen. Try this exercise the next time you are having anxiety!

New Year Reflections

As we usher in the new year, we can’t help but spend some time reflecting on the last. Let’s use this week to not only reflect on our December Challenge (December Dreaming), but also to bring those dreams from 2016 into 2017, and to give them life!

This week, gather the knowledge, resources, and materials that you need to take that first step towards reaching your goal, or achieving your dream. It’s the very first week of 2017, now is the time!

“In all chaos there is a cosmos. . .”

As 2016 is drawing to a close, we naturally take some time to reflect on this past year, and all the many years that have come before it. Though our lives may often seem hectic, we should remember that life is made of both ups and downs, and that these ups and downs can be quick, and sometimes simultaneous. Life is hectic, but there is still beauty in it, if we truly look.

These simple steps are intended to help you get started pursuing some of your dreams, and learning more about yourself. Brainstorming causes you to reflect on yourself and discover some of your potential passions. November Challenge Reflection

November has come to a close, and the time has come for us to reflect on the work that we did in last month’s challenge. November Nonsense was about catching the automatic thoughts that you have about yourself, recording them, and then evaluating these thoughts. By asking yourself where these thoughts stem from, the beliefs that you hold that may support these thoughts, and if these thoughts and beliefs are true and good for you can help to identify the thoughts that are tearing you down and holding you back. What did you learn this month?

You are capable, you are confident!

The words that run through your mind have a profound effect on your mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Becoming aware of your automatic thoughts presents a challenge, and changing these thoughts can sometimes be even harder. Start small. With this positive affirmation, remind yourself that you are capable of doing whatever you set your mind to, and, with time, confidence will follow.
